You are invited to the Fifth Annual “Racquet for the Cure” women’s racquetball tournament. The event will be held Saturday, October 2nd, at the Wisconsin Athletic Club (WAC) in West Allis. In the first four years we have raised over $64,000 for the Milwaukee Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which provides funding for breast cancer awareness, treatment and research.
We hope as many of you as possible can join us in this phenomenal fund-raising success. In addition to players, we also need donations for the silent auction and raffle. Please contact Linda Covault for donation and sponsorship information.
Entry forms will be emailed to you soon. Contact Jamie Defouw for tournament information. Hope to see you in October.
Sincerely,
Racquet for the Cure Committee
An amazingly supportive crowd turned out for the 4th Annual Racquet for the Cure on Saturday, October 3rd. Again this year, Tres Locos Mexican Restaurant in Muskego was the title sponsor. Not only did they make a monetary donation, but they also provided dinner on Saturday night. This year they didn’t stop there. On September 21st, Tres Locos also hosted a golf outing and donated the proceeds from their event to the RFTC. A huge thank you to Tres Locos! So far, this year’s RFTC has raised an amazing $20,800. In just four short years, this event has raised over $64,000!
The event began on Friday night with a fun “Meet & Greet” men’s and women’s doubles racquetball challenge for all levels. Who do you think wore a pink skirt? Hint: It wasn’t a woman. For the answer, see the soon-to-be-posted photos on our website. Thank you to Big Ebe’s Pizza for donating pizza and salad for Friday’s kickoff event. Friday night’s activities also included a 50/50 raffle and a relaxing evening of socializing in the WAC’s Court Sport Café.
The main event began early Saturday with the women’s round robin racquetball tournament, which welcomed players of all skill levels. Players and volunteers were greeted with pink ribbon bagels donated by Panera Bread and coffee from Caribou Coffee. Jimmy John’s graciously donated lunch. Over 200 silent auction and raffle items were on display throughout the day. After the winners claimed their prizes, “Chris Rox” (a.k.a. Chris Hill) donated her time to “spin” music for a fun-filled night of dancing and celebration.
The Greater Milwaukee Racquet for the Cure Committee would also like to recognize Ben Blint, a personal trainer working at the WAC–Waukesha. Ben biked nine hours to raise money for the RFTC. Thank you, Ben, and everyone at the Waukesha club.
Thank you to all of our sponsors, donors, players, volunteers, bidders, buyers and all the other participants who have contributed generously to this cause. The success of the Racquet for the Cure would not be possible without the contributions of the Wisconsin Athletic Club. A special thank you to Trish Beatty and the staff at West Allis for putting on one of the best tournaments ever.
All of the money raised from the RFTC will go to the Milwaukee Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a breast cancer organization. The final donation amount will be officially announced at this year’s check presentation, to be held on Friday, November 20th at 7:00 p.m. at the WAC’s West Allis location.
Please thank RFTC’s sponsors by patronizing their businesses!

“Imagine life without breast cancer”
Come join us in the fight against breast cancer. The fourth annual Tres Locos Racquet for the Cure will be held on October 3, 2009. The Wisconsin Athletic Club has generously donated the West Allis location to host the women’s racquetball tournament again this year. Over the last three years you have helped raise over $43,000 for the Milwaukee Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a breast cancer foundation.
With your support we will help fund local programs for breast cancer awareness, screening, treatment and research.
The tournament for women is for all levels from open to novice players. There is a division for everyone to play in, even if you have never played racquetball before. Both singles and doubles will be offered. Check the entry form at the front desk for more information and to sign up.
The women’s tournament is only part of the RFTC event. There will be a silent auction and raffle for everyone! The descriptions of the auction items will be available for viewing and bidding beginning Monday, September 28 through October 3 at 7 pm, at the WAC-West Allis. Last year there were over 100 items in the silent auction and raffle. Bid high and bid often to make a difference. In the evening after the auction and raffle winners are announced a local DJ, Chris Rox, will again donate her time for a fun-filled night of music and dancing.
We need everyone’s participation to make this a success. Spread the word, everyone is invited! You can participate in the silent auction, the raffle, the tournament (by playing or cheering on your friends), and the Saturday night celebration party.
Keep an eye out for information about events supporting this cause at other WAC locations throughout October, breast cancer awareness month.
The Wisconsin Athletic Club in West Allis hosted the third annual Racquet for the Cure tournament on October 4th. This year the main title sponsor was Tres Locos Mexican Restaurant. Tres Locos provided not only the dinner for the players and volunteers but a monetary donation as well. Thanks to Tres Locos and all of the many sponsors for making this event a huge success. All of the proceeds go to the Milwaukee Affiliate of the Susan G Komen for the Cure for breast cancer. The total raised for this year is $18,154. This makes the grand total for the three years over $43,000!!! This could not be accomplished unless we had a fantastic community of sponsors, players, friends and donors. Thank you for your generosity.
To kick off the event Ben Blint, a personal trainer at the WAC-Waukesha location, rode a stationary bike for 12 hours. Ben called it “The Iron Butt for Cancer”, and helped raise over $3000 for breast cancer. Way to go, Ben! For the week leading up to the tournament, there were over 100 donated items in the silent auction on display at the WAC-West Allis. On Friday there was a fun “Meet and Greet” doubles for men and women with a 50/50 raffle that night. Saturday there were 66 women players who participated in a round robin racquetball tournament with all levels of play, singles and doubles. Players from Wisconsin and Illinois joined the fun. Throughout the day, players and guests supported the cause by purchasing tickets for a chance to win numerous donated raffle items. At the end of the day the silent auction and raffle items were given out to the winners and prizes for first place at the tournament were awarded. Afterwards a local DJ donated her time to play music for the dance that evening. What a great time for a great cause! Thank you Wisconsin Athletic Club management and employees for donating your time to this event.
A gracious thank you goes to everyone for their contributions towards this very worthy cause. The success of the Racquet for the Cure lies in the heart of all of those people and their willingness to make a difference. There is no stopping until there is a cure. We need your help again next year for the Fourth Annual Racquet for the Cure on October 3, 2009. For more information contact Linda Covault. Hope to see you there!

Great racquetball, great fun, great food, and great fellowship all played a part in the huge success of the Second Annual Racquet for the Cure fund raising event. Because of the generosity of so many sponsors, donors, players, participants, and volunteers, the event raised $15,247.00 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation! The Wisconsin Athletic Club of West Allis hosted the event again this year. The event kicked off with a fun "meet and greet" doubles on Friday, October 5th, for men and women. Everyone participated in the 50/50 raffle that night, which started the donations for the Cure. On Saturday, 67 women participated in the racquetball tournament, representing all skill levels. Players from throughout Wisconsin and Illinois came to play singles and doubles in a round robin format in their respective divisions. During the week leading up to the tournament, over 100 donated items and services were on display and up for bid in a silent auction. The tournament also featured a full-scale raffle with the chance to win at least one of the over 50 items on display. As evening approached, the final bids were placed on the auction items and all the raffle items were presented to the winners. Once prizes were distributed, a local DJ donated her time to play music on Saturday night and the fun continued with dancing. New features to this year's event included a health fair with information on breast cancer, court sponsors whose logos were displayed on the front walls of the courts, and local TV news coverage, which was aired on the evening news that day.
A gracious thank you goes to everyone for their contributions towards this very worthy cause. The success of the Racquet for the Cure lies at the heart of all of these people and their willingness to make a difference. There are so many ways to make an impact, and we kindly commend those who have helped raise a two-year total of $25,367.00. We will not stop until there is a cure. Make a commitment to join us for the Third Annual Racquet for the Cure Tournament on October 3-4, 2008. For information contact Linda Covault. Hope to see you there!

The first annual women's Racquet for the Cure was held at the Wisconsin Athletic Club in West Allis on October 7, 2006 with amazing results. We had 67 players from all over Wisconsin and Illinois. We started on Friday night with a "meet and greet" fun doubles. Then on Saturday the fun began at 9 AM with a round robin format. The players were divided up into 9 skill levels. We had never had an all women's event before, so this was a great opportunity to get the ladies out playing. Two of the women had never played before but wanted to join us for this special day. The novice division had eight players. These were women who played less than three months. We presented them with pink breast cancer socks for playing in their first tournament.
We gave the first place winners pink hats with the tournament logo that was designed and made by Brad Melster from the Melster Pro Shop. Lunch was provided by Extreme Pita, and dinner was donated by Tres Locos. We were fortunate to have Piranha Promotions donate the shirts and Promolux donate towels. The red fire balls that we played with were donated by Ektelon along with a pink racquet for the auction.
We couldn't have raised as much money without the help of the Wisconsin Athletic Club. They were fantastic. They donated the whole facility for us to play and even donated 10% of the bar income for the cause.
In our photos, you will see the tournament committee, breast cancer brownies, the last players on the court, a future player, and other participants. There is also a photo of a very special pendant that Janet La Paz designed. She is the owner of Genesis Jewelry and Art Gallery, and she donated three of these pendants to the silent auction. She has offered to make more and donate 10% of each pendant sold to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
We had over 100 items donated for the silent auction and raffle. After everyone was done playing, we concluded the silent auction and raffle. A DJ donated her time to play music and the fun continued. It was a lot of hard work, but everyone wants to do it again until there is no such thing as breast cancer. Then we will play and celebrate.
You are probably wondering how much we actually raised. Since everything was donated, we were able to have the entry fee donated too. The grand total that we will be presenting to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is $10,014.00. What a tournament! We couldn't have done it without the generosity of so many people. Thank you all. We hope that you're able to come next year. It will probably be the first weekend in October. See you all there.
